Information

From September 30th, Germany will no longer implement the automatic visa extension policy for those who stay in Germany due to the epidemic!!!

Previously, for applicants who were temporarily unable to leave Germany due to the impact of the epidemic after the Schengen visa expired, the Bundesrat approved the amendment to the relevant decree to extend the legal residence time limit for foreigners who hold expired Schengen visas in Germany until September 30, 2020, and No liability for illegal stay. The relevant decrees are as follows:

However, on September 18, the official website of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior issued the latest notice:

1. Applicants who stay in Germany with expired Schengen visas due to the new crown epidemic must leave Germany before September 30, that is, the relevant regulations for holders of expired Schengen visas to legally reside in Germany will expire on September 30, 2020.

2. In individual cases, holders of expired Schengen visas who are unable to leave the country due to special reasons may seek solutions within the scope permitted by the Residence Law.

At the same time, the Chinese Embassy in Germany also issued an important reminder on September 22: Germany will not extend expired Schengen visas in principle after September 30.

According to the website of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, after September 30, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior will no longer implement the automatic visa extension policy for those stranded in Germany due to the epidemic.

On April 9 and June 19, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior twice announced the extension of the validity of Schengen visas for third-country personnel stranded in Germany due to the epidemic until September 30. The ministry announced on September 18 that this policy will end after September 30. Schengen visa holders who have expired visas and are still unable to leave Germany for special reasons must contact the local SAFE in time to apply for a visa extension on a case-by-case basis or ask them to issue a departure certificate (Grenzübertrittsbescheinigung).

The embassy in Germany reminds my citizens who are stranded in Germany due to the epidemic to check the validity period of their personal Schengen visas. In order to avoid unnecessary trouble or leave bad records when leaving the country, please submit relevant applications to the local SAFE in time.
